The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. 1 Corinthians 12:12 |

Mic' ng String Instruments
Know your instrument and you will be successful at getting great sound from it. String instruments
resonate in three ways 1) the strings themselves; 2) the air inside the instrument body; and 3) the wood.
The interaction of all three of these is what makes a particular string instrument sound the way it does.
String instruments require experimentation for proper mic'ing. Placing the mic by the f-hole will provide
rich bodied sound while placing the mic where the bow meets the strings will give you more presence. Either
way a small condenser mic will do the trick here. Also a mini clip-on on the directional condenser will work
well if attached to the bridge. DPA makes a great microphone for attaching to string bridges. It's worth a
look if you have the budget. In the end, move the mic to the place where you think it sounds the best for
your room. What's right in my room isn't necessarily right in yours.
